In the last decade, the demand for computer related degrees has been steadily increasing. Until recently, there were no specialized degrees related to crimes in which a computer or the internet was used. Several colleges, both hands-on and online, are offering degrees in cyber security. Obtaining an undergraduate degree takes a minimum of two years and there are several costs involved in addition to tuition costs.
The cost of tuition for a cyber security major will vary greatly. Factors that will affect the cost of tuition include which school the student chooses to attend, the length of the program and degree requirements. Some schools offer cyber security degrees to students only after the students have completed an Associate’s degree program. This is especially true for online schooling. Cyber security degrees can be undergraduate or graduate, and this will greatly affect the amount of tuition a student is going to have.
Additional costs will accumulate during the time period a student is in school. These additional costs will vary, depending on what type of student a person is. For example, students who take online courses or courses from technical schools are generally non-traditional students. This means they are more likely to be older, and may have families to support as well as full-time jobs. In this case, the cost of running a household, supporting children and other family costs need to be considered while a non-traditional student is in school.
For the traditional student who is starting college immediately following graduation from high school, there are many different costs associated with attending college. First, housing will need to be considered. Even dorm rooms are going to cost something. Next, think about food. It is cheaper to eat at home than it is to go out, but how feasible is this for the student who is living in a dorm room?
Every person who has chosen a
is going to have additional costs, other than tuition. If the courses are being taken online, the student will need a computer to take the classes as well as a dedicated computer for the coursework. This computer will need to have enough memory to hold the software the student will be required to purchase and use for his or her classes. Additionally, books, lab costs, writing utensils, paper, folders, back packs or other carrying cases, CDs and all other necessary school related supplies will be needed for each class.
Lastly, students who are obtaining cyber security degrees will need to complete an internship. This means the student will need to be dressed appropriately. Students who do not have appropriate clothing will incur an additional cost of purchasing appropriate business attire.
The costs of obtaining a cyber security degree can really add up quickly. Like any other degree, students will need to be prepared for class and have books, paper and other tools. In addition, cyber security majors will need to have at least two working computers: one that is dedicated to course work only and another for general use, software programs used in the degree work and appropriate clothing for an internship.
